When a ‘Problem’ Arises, Return to the Breath

Life will always present us with moments that feel like problems — a disagreement, a loss, an unexpected change. The mind immediately begins to spin its stories: Why did this happen? What if it gets worse? How will I fix it?

But in truth, the “problem” is not the situation itself. It’s the storm of thinking that surrounds it. The mind creates tension by replaying the past or imagining the future. The body tightens, the heart races, and we become lost in thought.

When this happens, pause.
Take one slow breath in.
And one slow breath out.

Bring your full attention to this simple act of breathing. Feel the air move through you — a rhythm that has always been there, asking for nothing. In this moment, you are no longer tangled in the story. You have stepped out of the thinking mind and into awareness.

From this space, you may notice that everything is actually okay. Right now. The noise of thought settles, and what remains is presence.

The next time a problem arises, remember:
Don’t chase the thought.
Return to the breath.
Peace was never gone. It was only hidden beneath the noise of the mind.
